This meeting has long been recognized as the premier scientific event in the field and remains one of the most frequently cited meetings in the field in terms of citation impact. The 2012 meeting theme is "Integrating Neurobiological and Behavioral Studies in Human Disease", a continuation of an original meeting theme which focused on "Human Neurophysiology and Behavior". The overall goal of this meeting is to foster dialogue between neuroscientists and behavioral scientists, who may not necessarily interact with each other, but who are highly interested in both the etiology and treatment of diseases that impact the nervous system. This will be achieved through the presentation of high quality scientific presentations by accomplished speakers and through general discussions by meeting participants. A major strength of this meeting will be the breadth of disciplines represented by the participants. This includes experts in basic and clinical neurobiology, neurology, neuropharmacology, neuropsychiatry, neuroimaging, and related disciplines such as genetics, cognitive neuroscience, neuromodulation and molecular biology. Each year there are 3 concurrent sessions, and the theme of each session will be the theme of the meeting. Previous meetings have emphasized the following: Neuroimaging and Disease;Genetics, Neurobiology and Drug Abuse;Behavioral Assessment and Treatment of Neurologic Disorders. As in previous meetings, the 2012 meeting will have a significant NIMH participation. This will be achieved through targeted recruitment of NIMH speakers, as well as the significant representation of the field by NIMH supported research projects. This support will help ensure that the meeting will include speakers and discussions related to NIMH supported research. The meeting will be broken into groups of between 12-25 junior investigators and between 12-25 senior investigators. A number of these sessions will be sponsored by the NIMH, including special sessions for: Junior Investigators;Neuropharmacology and Neuropsychiatry;Neurogenetics;Neuroimaging: Neurodevelopmental and Neurodegenerative. A major strength of the meetings is the high degree of cross-disciplinary collaboration that is fostered at the meeting. Thus the interactive working groups are an important d0c515b9f4
